Water Well Contractor Registration

In New York State, businesses must register every year to drill water wells. They do this with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

To register as a water well contractor in New York State, you must:

• Pass a two-part test. This test is from the National Ground Water Association (NGWA). It covers drilling and pump installation.
• Fill out a registration form.
• Send a check or money order for $10. This is the fee for the year.

Registration lasts from April 1 to March 31 of the next year.
